There's nothing nicer than driving the SL with the roof down on a sunny day, a great place to be.
About this 1995 SL320 24v
This car was over £65k in 1995, making this is easily the most expensive and fastest car I have ever owned in terms of list price when new with a top speed of 149mph. I purchased the car at the beginning of this year from the last owner who purchased it from Mercedes in Loughborough for £33,900 22 years ago.
What attracted me to this particular SL320 was the outstanding condition and the fully documented account of every service record, MOT and invoice to show that it has been looked after with great care through its entire life. I went to photograph this car for the client and ended up buying it! You may ask why did I need another convertible? The answer was that my Spider was in for a fairly lengthy engine overhaul, which is now completed, the SL provided a fabulous summer car, we have loved every minute of this car and been all over the UK in it.
The car has only had 4 previous keepers over its 27 years, and looks almost like new inside and out. The engine pulls swiftly and ultra smoothly returning approx 30 mpg, not bad for a car built from a solid billet! The last service was carried out on 09/08/2021 at 151021 miles, the current mileage is just under 154k. The most recent MOT test was carried out this August and passed without any advisories.
The R129 was the first car to have a fully automated power roof, no clips to lock the roof once raised, you just hold the button to raise or lower the roof and that is it, remarkable for 1989 when the car was launched. At the launch the car was on the stand with the roof opening and closing to show off the new mechanism and its reliability, this cars roof still works perfectly. The SL320 could well be the 'sweet spot' in terms of engine choice, plenty fast enough and not too bad on fuel or servicing costs. A future classic, if not already one.
